The following year, Miami started off with seven straight wins and rose to as high as No. 2 in the AP Poll before finishing the regular season with a 10-2 record. They lost to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game and then lost to Wisconsin in the Orange Bowl. In 2018, Miami went 7-6 and lost to Wisconsin in the Pinstripe Bowl. Mark Richt was the head coach of Miami for the 2016-2018 seasons before retiring. During his tenure, Miami ran a pro-style offense, which emphasized a balanced approach between running and passing the ball. The quarterback was typically under center, and the offense relied on a strong offensive line and running back to establish a ground game. Richt also favored the use of tight ends and fullbacks in the offense, allowing for versatility in play-calling and formation.
