2015 Georgia Defense - Jeremy Pruitt

The 2015 Georgia Bulldogs defense, coordinated by Jeremy Pruitt, was one of the most formidable units in the SEC. Pruitt, known for his aggressive and disciplined defensive schemes, brought a wealth of experience from his time at Florida State and Alabama. In 2015, Pruitt's second and final year as Georgia’s defensive coordinator, the Bulldogs' defense ranked among the nation's best in several key categories, and his influence helped shape a stout and versatile unit.

Pruitt primarily employed a 3-4 defensive scheme, which was similar to the system he had used at Alabama. The 3-4 defense featured three defensive linemen and four linebackers, offering flexibility to defend both the run and pass. Pruitt’s version of the 3-4 placed a heavy emphasis on creating pressure with the linebackers, mixing in blitzes and stunts, and disguising coverages.

Pruitt's defense also had elements of the Nick Saban-style match-up zone coverage, which combined man-to-man principles with zone looks. This hybrid approach allowed the Bulldogs to confuse opposing quarterbacks, forcing them into making mistakes and allowing the Georgia secondary to excel.

Pruitt's defense in 2015 was one of the most consistent and effective units in the country. His ability to blend aggressive schemes with sound fundamentals helped Georgia stay competitive in every game. The Bulldogs finished the season with a 10-3 record, including a victory in the TaxSlayer Bowl against Penn State, where the defense played a pivotal role, allowing only 17 points and forcing key turnovers.

Although Pruitt left Georgia after the 2015 season to take the defensive coordinator position at Alabama, his impact on the Bulldogs' defense was clear. His attention to detail, ability to develop players, and success in creating game plans against top-tier offenses left a lasting legacy in Athens.
