1993 Houston Oilers - Buddy Ryan

Buddy Ryan was a football coach who was known for his aggressive style of defense. He was the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears from 1978 to 1985, during which time the Bears won two Super Bowls.

Ryan was born in Frederick, Oklahoma, in 1931. He played college football at Oklahoma State University, where he was a two-time All-Big Eight selection. After college, Ryan played briefly in the NFL for the Los Angeles Rams.

Ryan's first coaching job was as an assistant coach at the University of Buffalo. He then moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was the defensive coordinator from 1976 to 1977.

In 1978, Ryan was hired as the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears. He installed a 46 defense that was known for its aggressiveness and its ability to pressure the quarterback. The Bears won two Super Bowls with Ryan as the defensive coordinator, in 1985 and 1986.

After leaving the Bears, Ryan was the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1986 to 1990. He was also the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 1994 to 1995.

Ryan was known for his fiery personality and his willingness to speak his mind. He was also known for his innovative defensive schemes. Ryan was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
