1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Dungy & Kiffin
Tony Dungy was the head coach and Monte Kiffin was the defensive coordinator of the 1999 Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team. The Buccaneers finished the season with a 11-5 record and made it to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Atlanta Falcons.
Dungy was a longtime NFL assistant coach who had previously served as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. He was known for his defensive-minded approach and his ability to get the most out of his players.
Kiffin was a longtime NFL defensive coordinator who had previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys and the Tennessee Titans. He was known for his innovative defensive schemes and his ability to pressure the quarterback.
The Buccaneers' defense was a key part of their success in 1999. They finished the season ranked 6th in the NFL in total defense.
The Cover 2 defense was made popular by Monte Kiffin and Tony Dungy when they were together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the late 1990s. The Buccaneers' defense was one of the best in the NFL during that time, and they were able to win Super Bowl XXXVII in 1999.
The Cover 2 defense is a zone defense that is designed to protect the deep middle of the field. It is based on the idea of having two deep safeties who are responsible for covering the deep middle of the field, while the cornerbacks and the linebackers are responsible for covering the underneath zones.
