The 5-2 defense is a defensive alignment that consists of five defensive linemen and two linebackers. It is a relatively simple defense to understand and execute, but it can be very effective against the run.

The 5-2 defense is typically used by teams that have a strong defensive line. The five defensive linemen are responsible for stopping the run and pressuring the quarterback. The two linebackers are responsible for covering the gaps between the defensive linemen and making tackles.

The 5-2 defense can be effective against the run because it has a lot of defenders in the box. This makes it difficult for the offense to run the ball up the middle. The 5-2 defense can also be effective against the pass because the two linebackers can drop into coverage and defend against short passes.
