Cincinnati Bearcats Defense (1996)

The 1996 Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team was one of the best teams in program history. They finished the regular season with a record of 28-5 and won the Conference USA championship. The Bearcats advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, where they lost to the eventual national champion Kentucky Wildcats.

The defensive coordinator for the 1996 Cincinnati Bearcats was Rex Ryan. Ryan was in his first season as the Bearcats' defensive coordinator, and he helped the team to one of the best defensive seasons in program history.

The Bearcats' defense ranked first in Conference USA in scoring defense, allowing just 65.8 points per game. They also ranked first in Conference USA in total defense, allowing just 369.8 yards per game.

The Bearcats' defense was led by a number of talented players, including linebacker Bryan Hickman, defensive end Justin Smith, and safety Brian Dixon. Hickman was the leading tackler on the team, with 135 tackles. Smith was the leading sacker on the team, with 10 sacks. Dixon was the leading interception leader on the team, with six interceptions.

College defense in American football is a complex and ever-evolving discipline. There are many different defensive schemes that coaches use, but all of them are designed to stop the opposing team from scoring points.
