Dickinson College Red Devils 4-4 Defense (1994)
The 1994 Red Devils football team was the 102nd American football team to represent Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The team was led by 1st year head coach Gary Rankin and played their home games at Biddle Field. The Red Devils finished the season with a 9-1 record, won the Centennial Conference championship, and advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs.
The 1994 Red Devils were known for their strong defense, which allowed an average of just 13.9 points per game. The defense was led by linebacker Matt Ryan, who was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year. The Red Devils also had a solid offense, which averaged 30.6 points per game. The offense was led by running back Derrick Johnson, who rushed for 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns.
The defense coordinator of the 1994 Red Devils football team was Jimmy Maynord. He was hired by head coach Gary Rankin in 1994 and helped lead the Red Devils to their first state championship in school history. Maynord was known for his aggressive and attacking defensive scheme. He also placed a strong emphasis on individual player development.
Maynord coached at Germantown for eight seasons before leaving to become the defensive coordinator at Memphis University. He returned to Germantown in 2011 and served as the head coach for two seasons. Maynord was inducted into the Germantown High School Hall of Fame in 2017.
