IUP Crimson Hawks Defense (2004) - Lou Tepper
The IUP Crimson Hawks defense in 2004 was one of the best defenses in the country. The team ranked first in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in total defense, allowing just 278.4 yards per game. The Crimson Hawks also ranked first in the PSAC in scoring defense, allowing just 15.7 points per game.
The Crimson Hawks' defense was led by defensive coordinator Lou Tepper, who was in his first season with the team. Tepper implemented a 3-4 defense that emphasized pressure on the quarterback and stopping the run. The defense was also designed to be flexible and to be able to adjust to different offenses.
Lou Tepper was the defensive coordinator for the IUP Crimson Hawks in 2004. He was in his first season with the Crimson Hawks, and he was responsible for implementing a new defensive scheme.
Tepper's defense was a 3-4 defense that emphasized pressure on the quarterback and stopping the run. The defense was also designed to be flexible and to be able to adjust to different offenses.
The 3-4 defense is a defensive alignment consisting of three down linemen and four linebackers. It is called a "base defense" because it will readily switch to other defensive alignments (such as a nickel defense or a dime defense) as circumstances change.
