Steve Spurrier is a retired American football coach and player. At Duke, Steve Spurrier coached from 1987 to 1989. In his first season, he led the team to its first winning season since 1977 and was named the ACC Coach of the Year. Steve Spurrier's offense style at Duke was known as the "Fun 'n' Gun" offense. It was a pass-heavy offensive scheme that relied on quick, short passes and a fast-paced tempo to wear down opposing defenses. The offense was highly successful under Spurrier, leading Duke to one of the best offensive seasons in school history in 1989.
