1993 Syracuse Orangemen Freeze Option Offense - Paul Pasqualoni

The coach of the 1993 Syracuse football team was Paul Pasqualoni.

Paul Pasqualoni is a retired American football coach who served as the head coach of the Syracuse Orange football team from 1991 to 2004. He played college football as a linebacker at Penn State from 1968 to 1971 and began his coaching career there as a graduate assistant in 1972. He worked his way up through the coaching ranks and was the defensive coordinator for Syracuse before being promoted to head coach in 1991.

During his tenure at Syracuse, Pasqualoni led the Orange to a record of 107-59-1 and guided the team to nine bowl games, including a victory in the 1993 Fiesta Bowl. He was also named Big East Coach of the Year twice, in 1992 and 1996. Pasqualoni was known for his emphasis on defense, and several of his players went on to successful careers in the NFL, including Dwight Freeney, Keith Bulluck, and Donovan McNabb.

In 1993, Paul Pasqualoni led the Syracuse football team to an undefeated regular season with a record of 10-0-1. The team was ranked 6th in the nation, won the Big East conference, and played in the Fiesta Bowl against the University of Colorado. Despite losing to Colorado in the bowl game, the 1993 Syracuse team is considered one of the best in the school's history.

Paul Pasqualoni's offense style at Syracuse in 1993 was a balanced attack that emphasized a strong running game. The team relied heavily on the run, with running back Marvin Harrison rushing for over 1,000 yards that season. The passing game was also effective, with quarterback Kevin Mason throwing for over 1,800 yards and 11 touchdowns. The offense operated out of a pro-style formation, with multiple formations and personnel groupings used to keep defenses off balance. The offense was not afraid to take shots downfield, but it was ultimately the ground game that powered the team's success.
