The 2002 Georgia Southern Eagles football team was a very successful team. They finished the season with a record of 10-2 and won the Southern Conference championship. This was the Eagles' fifth consecutive conference championship.
The Eagles were led by head coach Paul Johnson, who was one of the most innovative offensive minds in college football. Johnson's offense was based on the triple option, which is a run-oriented offense that is designed to keep the defense guessing. The Eagles' triple option offense was very effective in 2002, as they averaged over 300 rushing yards per game.

Foster threw for over 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. The Eagles also had a strong running game led by running back Adrian Peterson, who rushed for over 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns.
