The 2004 Olivet College Comets football team etched its place in program history with an outstanding 8-2 record, setting a new standard of excellence. Competing in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) within the NCAA Division III, the Comets, under the leadership of head coach Mark Spencer in his fifth season at Olivet, demonstrated prowess on the field.

Bob Kubiak, the offensive coordinator, played a pivotal role in the Comets' historic season. Previously serving in the same capacity from 1988 to 1992 under head coach Dominic Livedoti, Kubiak returned to the role in 2004 alongside Livedoti.

Kubiak's influence on the Comets' offensive success was profound. The team's offense claimed the top spot in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) in scoring, averaging an impressive 44.6 points per game. They also secured the second position in total offense, averaging 482.6 yards per game.

Kubiak's offensive philosophy was characterized by a commitment to running the ball and controlling the clock, relying on a formidable offensive line and a physically dominant running back. This strategy proved effective, especially in the red zone.

Quarterback Aaron Keeney led the Comets' dynamic offense, throwing for 3,315 yards and an impressive 35 touchdowns, earning him first-team All-MIAA honors in 2004. Running back Brandon Wadd contributed significantly, rushing for 1,232 yards and scoring 13 touchdowns, earning him a second-team All-MIAA selection.

The receiving corps, spearheaded by Chris Johnston, played a crucial role, with Johnston catching 56 passes for 1,024 yards and 12 touchdowns. Johnston's stellar performance earned him first-team All-MIAA recognition. Other talented receivers, including Michael Taylor and Jermaine Byrd, further enhanced the offensive capabilities.

A defining moment for the Comets came with a thrilling victory against the Albion Britons, prevailing with a narrow 63-62 scoreline. Another noteworthy triumph was against the Alma Scots, where the Comets dominated with a commanding 78-21 win.
