2007 USC Trojans 4-3 Defense - Pete Carroll
The coach of the 2007 USC Trojans football team was Pete Carroll.
Pete Carroll is a former American football coach who is best known for his success at both the college and professional levels. He was the head coach of the USC Trojans from 2001 to 2009, where he led the team to two national championships and seven straight Pac-10 titles. He then went on to coach the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL) from 2010 to 2019, winning a Super Bowl championship in 2013 and making two other Super Bowl appearances. He is known for his energetic coaching style and his emphasis on competition and positivity.
In 2007, Pete Carroll coached the USC Trojans to a record of 11-2. The Trojans were ranked No. 1 in the preseason polls and started the season with a 2-0 record before losing to then-unranked Stanford in a major upset. The team then went on to win eight straight games before losing to cross-town rivals UCLA in the final regular season game. The Trojans then defeated Illinois in the Rose Bowl to finish the season ranked No. 3 in the nation.
Notable players on the 2007 USC Trojans team included quarterback John David Booty, running back Chauncey Washington, and wide receiver Patrick Turner.
Pete Carroll is known for his defensive expertise, and the 2007 USC Trojans were no exception. That year, USC's defense was one of the best in the nation, allowing only 16.9 points per game, which ranked 11th in the country. The Trojans' defense was anchored by several future NFL players, including Keith Rivers, Sedrick Ellis, and Lawrence Jackson. They played a base 4-3 defense, but Carroll was also known for mixing up his defensive fronts and coverages to keep offenses off balance.
