In 2018, Dan Mullen was in his first season as the head coach of the Florida Gators football team. The team finished the regular season with a record of 9-3, including a big win over their in-state rival, the Florida State Seminoles. The Gators also finished second in the SEC East division and earned a spot in the Peach Bowl, where they defeated the Michigan Wolverines 41-15. The team's success under Mullen's leadership was largely due to their strong defense, which ranked 20th in the nation in total defense and 28th in scoring defense.

Dan Mullen's offense style at 2018 Florida was a spread offense, which emphasizes spreading the defense out horizontally and creating mismatches in open space. The offense also features a strong running game, with the quarterback often running the ball himself or handing it off to a running back. The passing game emphasizes quick, accurate throws, often to slot receivers or tight ends in the middle of the field. Mullen's offense also incorporates option plays and trick plays to keep the defense guessing. Overall, Mullen's offensive style emphasizes speed, versatility, and a willingness to take risks to keep the opposing defense off balance.
