Alabama Crimson Tide Defense (1958) - Bear Bryant
Bryant was born in Moro Bottom, Arkansas, and played college football at the University of Alabama. He then spent several years as a high school coach in Alabama.
In 1951, Bryant was hired as the head football coach at the University of Kentucky. He led the Wildcats to a 31–6 record in four seasons, and he was named SEC Coach of the Year in 1954.
In 1958, Bryant was hired as the head football coach at the University of Alabama. He led the Crimson Tide to six national championships, and he is the winningest coach in college football history with a record of 323–85–16.
The 1958 Alabama Crimson Tide football team was one of the greatest college football teams of all time. They finished the season with a perfect 11–0 record and were awarded the national championship.
The team was led by head coach Bear Bryant and quarterback Pat Trammell. The defense was anchored by linebacker Lee Roy Jordan.
The Crimson Tide outscored their opponents by an average of 35.8 to 6.2 points per game. They shut out four of their opponents, including archrival Auburn.
The Crimson Tide's biggest win came in the Sugar Bowl, where they defeated the heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners, 17–0.
