Delta State Statesmen Offense (1999)
The 1999 Delta State Statesmen football team was one of the most successful teams in school history. The team finished the regular season with a record of 9-2, and they won the Gulf South Conference championship. The Statesmen also advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs, where they lost in the quarterfinals to the University of North Alabama.
Todd Cooley is a former college football player and coach. He played college football at Arkansas Tech University, where he was a two-time All-Gulf South Conference selection. After his playing career ended, Cooley began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Arkansas Tech. He went on to coach at a number of different schools, including Samford University, Central Arkansas University, and Ouachita Baptist University.
Cooley was hired as the offense coordinator of the Delta State Statesmen in 1999. He helped the Statesmen to a 9-2 record in 1999, and their offense was one of the best in the Gulf South Conference. Cooley was named the Gulf South Conference Offensive Coordinator of the Year in 1999.
The Delta State Statesmen football team used a spread offense in 1999. The spread offense is a pass-oriented offense that uses four or five wide receivers and a single running back. The goal of the spread offense is to spread the defense out and create mismatches between the offense and the defense.
The spread offense was developed in the 1980s, and it has become increasingly popular in college and professional football in recent years. The spread offense is known for its ability to generate big plays and score a lot of points.
