1997 New York Giants - John Fox
John Fox is a former professional American football coach who is currently the senior defensive assistant for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers (2002–2010), Denver Broncos (2011–2015), and Chicago Bears (2019–2020).
Fox was born in Kilgore, Texas, and played college football at Penn State University, where he was a two-year starter at linebacker. After graduating from Penn State, Fox began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 1982. He then spent two seasons as a defensive assistant at the University of Cincinnati before being hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a defensive assistant in 1985.
The defensive coordinator for the 1997 New York Giants football team was John Fox. He was a longtime NFL assistant coach who had previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Carolina Panthers.
The Giants' defense was a big reason why the team was successful in 1997. They were able to pressure the quarterback and force turnovers, which helped them win the NFC East division title.
The Giants' defense was led by defensive end Michael Strahan, linebacker Jessie Armstead, and safety Jason Sehorn. Strahan was named to the Pro Bowl, and Armstead was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
John Fox ran a 3-4 defense with the 1997 New York Giants.
