The 1997 Kentucky Wildcats football team was a college football team that represented the University of Kentucky during the 1997 NCAA Division I-A football season. They participated as members of the Southeastern Conference in the Eastern Division.

Hal Mumme was the head coach of the 1997 Kentucky Wildcats football team. He was in his first season with the Wildcats, and he led the team to a record of 10-2, including a victory over Syracuse in the Outback Bowl.

Mumme was known for his innovative "air raid" offense, which emphasized quick passes and a fast-paced tempo. The Wildcats' offense ranked first in the nation in passing yards per game in 1997, and quarterback Tim Couch was named the SEC Player of the Year.
