LSU Tigers Defense (2001) - Nick Saban

Nick Saban was the head coach of the 2001 LSU Tigers football team. It was his second season as head coach at LSU, and he led the team to a record of 10-3, including an SEC Championship and a Sugar Bowl victory.

Saban completely turned around the LSU program in just two seasons. He inherited a team that had won just 3 games in 2000, but he led them to a 7-5 record in his first season and a 10-3 record in his second season.

Saban's 2001 LSU Tigers team was led by a strong defense. The Tigers ranked 1st in the SEC in scoring defense and 2nd in the SEC in total defense. The defense was led by defensive tackle Marcus Spears, who was named to the All-SEC First Team.

The Tigers' offense was also solid, ranking 5th in the SEC in scoring offense and 4th in the SEC in total offense. The offense was led by quarterback Rohan Davey, who threw for 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2001.

The Tigers finished the 2001 season with a record of 10-3, and they reached the Sugar Bowl. They defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini, 47-34, in the Sugar Bowl to win their first SEC Championship since 1996.
