Miami(OH) RedHawks Firezone Defense (2004)
The 2004 Miami (OH) RedHawks football team finished the season with a record of 8-5, including a 7-1 mark in the Mid-American Conference. The RedHawks were led by head coach Terry Hoeppner, who resigned after the season to become the head coach at Indiana.
The RedHawks' offense ranked 22nd in the nation in scoring offense, averaging 31.3 points per game. The offense was led by quarterback Shane Montgomery, who threw for 2,680 yards and 21 touchdowns. Running back Maurice Jones rushed for 1,085 yards and 13 touchdowns. Wide receiver Nate Johnson caught 50 passes for 917 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The RedHawks' defense ranked 41st in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 22.9 points per game. The defense was led by linebacker Paul Dawson, who recorded 128 tackles and 10.5 sacks. Defensive end Shaun Smith recorded 11.0 sacks. Defensive tackle David Horn recorded 9.0 sacks.
The defensive coordinator for the 2004 Miami (OH) RedHawks football team was Rick Minter. Minter was in his first season as defensive coordinator at Miami (OH), and he helped lead the RedHawks to a 7-1 record in the Mid-American Conference.
