New Mexico Lobos 3-3 Stack Defense (2003)

Osia Lewis served as the defensive coordinator for the New Mexico Lobos in 2003, contributing to their impressive 8-5 record. Known for his aggressive defensive schemes and skillful player development, Lewis led the Lobos to a 39th national ranking in total defense in 2003.

Under the guidance of Lewis, linebacker Jimmy Taylor emerged as a key player for the Lobos' defense, recording an impressive 155 tackles. Accompanying Taylor were other standout defensive talents such as defensive tackle Casey Hamilton and cornerback Brandon Ratcliff.

Led by head coach Rocky Long, the 2003 New Mexico Lobos football team made significant strides, finishing with their best record since 1997. The team showcased notable achievements, including a noteworthy ranking of 23rd in the AP Poll during the season.

On the offensive front, quarterback Casey Printers played a vital role, demonstrating his versatility with 3,010 passing yards and 22 touchdowns, coupled with 434 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Complementing Printers' performance was the leading rusher, DonTrell Moore, and the top receiver, Chris Lewis, who collectively contributed to the Lobos' offensive prowess.

Despite some inconsistencies, the Lobos secured remarkable victories, including a convincing 63-35 win against the No. 24 ranked BYU Cougars and a satisfying 34-17 triumph over their rivals, the New Mexico State Aggies. While facing challenges against teams such as San Jose State and Wyoming, the Lobos' 2003 season set the stage for their subsequent successes, ultimately leading to their Mountain West Conference championship win in 2006.
