How to teach your OL to pick up blitzers

Keeping your Quarterback upright can be the difference between winning and losing games.

Having an offensive line that can help the QB adjust to blitzes and pressures can save your offense from negative plays and open up big time opportunities down the field!

That’s why today we’re going to talk about a blitz pickup drill that will buy your QB extra time to throw the ball.

This is just one of hundreds of ready to use drills that you can use at your next practice from our latest release:

The Mega Drill Book Bundle

The Blitz Pickup Drill

For this drill, you’ll need at least two offensive linemen, a quarterback, and two defenders.

The drill begins with the two linemen pass setting against a defensive lineman. The second defender will then enter the picture on a blitz and the linemen will need to adjust to pick up the blitz and pass off the other rusher.

In the example above, the defensive lineman is lined up in a 4i on the left tackle. At the snap, the LT and LG will drop into their pass protection where they will share the responsibility of walling the DL from the QB.

Learn how to teach your offensive line to pick up blitzers effectively with a key Blitz Pickup Drill. Buy your QB extra time and prevent negative plays with drills from The Mega Drill Book Bundle.

Once the blitzer enters the picture, the LT will need to pass the DL off solely to the LG and slide out to prevent the blitzer from getting around the edge.

By incorporating this drill into game situations, you can buy your QB multiple extra seconds to throw!

You’ll be able to implement this and so many other drills into your next practice and see IMMEDIATE results from each of your position groups!
