“Hash Flipper” Calls
Coach Davies really likes movement plays as part of his no huddle attack, because they’re efficient, and they give you the ability to wear down defenses, and the “Hash Flipper” calls are one category that makes up their movement calls on the call sheet.
Hash Flippers are plays that happen right now. They can include things like a swing screen to the RB, a speed sweep or a sprint out pass. When they call these plays, they’re not really expecting something explosive, but they do want a high level of efficiency.
Since these plays hit very quickly, they typically don’t have much misdirection involved in the play. This isn’t necessarily a good thing since you want to have some misdirection in your offense, but that’s the tradeoff you make when you call a play like this.
The purpose of the play isn’t to cause misdirection, it’s to get the defense chasing sideline-to-sideline, stay efficient by keeping the ball moving forward, and also sometimes, like the name suggests, to get the ball to a specific hash to set up something else.
