How to Get Your Receivers to Block

There’s nothing more frustrating than having a receiver who can’t (or chooses not to) block in the run game…..

That’s why today, we’re taking a look at a drill that improves WRs’ contributions to the blocking game!

This is just one of hundreds of drills that we have to help EVERY POSITION on your offense AND defense which are available together at an amazing value for a limited time with our latest release: The Mega Drill Book Bundle

The Backside Angle Blocking Drill

Improve your wide receivers' blocking skills with the Backside Angle Blocking Drill. Learn how to get your receivers to block effectively and contribute to your run game with drills from The Mega Drill Book Bundle.

This drill helps teach WRs how to gain leverage on defenders even while starting from an unfavorable angle.

The drill is set up with a line of WRs and a defender playing 5-6 yards off. To the inside of the defender is a box of four cones that are landmarks for the WR to help them run at an angle that creates leverage.

On the coach’s signal, the first WR in line releases off of the LOS and drives toward the back left cone, racing the defender to this spot.

Before the defender may join the race to the cone, he must take three read steps to simulate reading his offensive cues at the snap.

Once the WR reaches the top left cone, he will square himself and initiate contact with the defender. The WR will strike with his elbows in and thumbs up, driving his legs to create power.

On the coach’s whistle, the rep ends and the WR becomes the defender and the next WR in line steps forward.

You’ll be able to implement this and so many other drills into your next practice and see IMMEDIATE results from each of your position groups!

Create the most complete version of every position group today with the Mega Drill Book Bundle
