Reverse Throwback Pass

Whether you’ve got two quarterbacks you really like, or you’ve just got a player with an arm who you want to get involved, this is a great play idea to create confusion on defense and create the space for a big play.

The X receiver in this example should run a deep cross over the top of the secondary and reach 15 yards just past the opposite hash. You want to occupy the secondary and take their eyes elsewhere.

Discover how the Reverse Throwback Pass can create confusion on defense and lead to big plays. Perfect for teams with versatile athletes. Pre-order "The Complete Trick Plays Playbook" now!

The offensive line is blocking a hard slide protection to the left to sell the fake outside zone without getting downfield. The attached tight end and H-back help secure the edge long enough so that the reverse can happen safety and the pass can be thrown.

One possible change to this play is removing the attached tight end and instead having a split receiver to that side to run the corner off, depending on what kind of defense you’re facing and how aggressive the boundary corner likes to play.
