Hey Coach,

Teaching proper drop back mechanics is important for starting every play smoothly.

Today we’re going to discuss a drill that teaches sound footwork and explosive drops for the QB position. This topic is discussed in our product: The Complete QB Drills Bundle

The QB Box Drill

The box drill begins with the QB at the top right corner of the box. You can outline the box for your QB using cones or by constructing it out of rectangular bags.

The QB starts by taking his drop to the bottom of the right corner. He will plant his back foot for a second before pushing off and shuffle stepping to the left.

Once he reaches the bottom left corner, the QB will run forward to the top left corner and shuffle step back to the right.

The QB starts at the top right corner of the box and takes a drop to the bottom right corner, then shuffle steps to the left, runs forward to the top left corner, and shuffle steps back to the right. Finally, the QB sets his feet at the final destination and throws a pass to a stationary WR 10 yards down the field.
